Restless legs syndrome patients risk for heart disease

Research at the University of California, San Francisco, showed that about 45 percent of patients with restless legs syndrome at risk of thickening of tissue layer on the heart wall that leads to heart disease or cause the death. Patients who moves their feet more than 35 times during sleep at higher risk of heart wall tissue layer thickening compared with fewer moves their feet.

According to Dr. Arshad Jahangir, a cardiologist from the Mayo Clinic Arizona, restless leg syndrome is not the cause of heart attacks, but it will only be a clue about the presence of risk factors that need to be wary of. This disorder usually causes the patient to feel their legs would not silent even when they are sleeping, so they can not sleep soundly.

Thickening of the tissue lining the heart wall will interfere with the heart in pumping blood. Continuous observation for 3 years, concluded that the patient restless legs syndrome who experienced thickening in the heart tissue will have two times more at risk of heart attacks and even death. But the the patient whose feet did not move much while sleeping showed their heart relatively safe.

The study was funded by the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute and was presented at the American College of Cardiology conference in New Orleans.

The cause of trigger heart attacks may often occur

Sometimes we are not aware in everyday life we often do something that will trigger the risk of heart attack. The simple things that maybe we think is not serious but can trigger heart attacks.

Drinks that contained alcohol can add to the burden of heart because of increased blood pressure. Alcoholics would have a 3 times risk for heart attack.

Caffeine in coffee can stimulate the heart, causing high blood flow to the muscle to be increased causing high blood pressure. This will usually be experienced by coffee addict, must be careful with the amount of caffeine consumption because it can have 1.5 times more susceptible to the risk of heart attack.

Most foods containing fat and salt
When we eat a nice meal we usually will forget the excessive amount of food we eat. This is not good for our heart because of too many foods that contain lots of fat and salt can increase blood pressure. This could increase the risk of heart attack 7 times.

Why Healthy People Suddenly Die of Heart Disease

Lately many instances of people who died suddenly of a heart attack, whereas previously they were healthy and never complained about their heart problems. A study showed that the cause of a sudden heart attack in healthy people is due to abnormal heart rate.

The study results also suggested that the abnormal sudden heart rate will trigger up to 9 times the risk of death by heart attack in healthy people. The cause of the heartbeat that suddenly is not normal can be caused by several factors such as the influence of the surrounding air, physical activity, body position, level of emotion, body size and the consumption of certain drugs that could trigger acceleration of heart rate.

The research published in the Journal of the Cardiovascular Electrophysiology has been involved 1,300 people aged 65 years or more. Research focused on the movement of the heart rate which refers to how smooth a normal heartbeat. According to Dr. Susan B. Shurin, director of the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI), USA, that the movement of abnormal heartbeat can cause risk of death in healthy people, and the level of heart rate could be to identify.

If someone who is exercising or doing physical activity and cause the pulse rate had exceeded the limits then he should do the rest for a moment. This is done to avoid the occurrence of abnormal heartbeat that can make a heart attack. The study will also look at whether the findings would also apply to other age, especially in younger.

Therapeutic Hypothermia Improve Survival for Cardiac Patients

Cardiac patients currently have an opportunity to protect their brains from damage by doing a new cooling therapy called Therapeutic hypothermia. Considering that this therapy is helpful for the patient, so the emergency responders in New York City will soon use it to treat the cardiac patients in U.S.

Since January 2009 about twenty hospitals in New York City have started using Therapeutic hypothermia. This therapy works by reducing the patient's body temperature associated with the oxygen requirement in the brain which become less, so it will reduce the risk of damage to brain cells. In application of this therapy will use cold packs or by injecting chilled saline solutions into patient bodies, and other more advanced techniques.

After the start to be implemented within the hospitals that is now nearly 43 of the 50 city hospitals that use it, Therapeutic hypothermia has been able to increase from 10 percent to 16.7 percent survival rate for cardiac patients. Next, the city will bring this practice into the street by an ambulance in response to the patient in order to avoid further injury.
