The new discovery of cancer treatment using bacteria from soil

Currently, the cancer treatment using radiation or chemotherapy has an impact of killing healthy cells that can reduce the body resistance. Researchers recently have found a new safe way to kill the cancer tumor cells without damaging healthy cells or tissues in the body using a strain of harmless bacteria in soil or dirt called "Clostridium sporogenes".

The Clostridia bacteria are actually an ancient group of bacteria which flourish in low oxygen conditions, so it will only grow in solid tumors when injected to cancer patients. The bacteria can produce a specific enzyme that activates a cancer drug.

The natural bacteria treatment is expected to provide a path for a simple and safe treatment for all types of tumor cells or solid tumors. According to head researcher, Professor Nigel Minton, the treatment using Clostridia bacteria is superior to a surgical procedure for patients at high risk or with difficult tumor locations.

Aleksandra Kubiak, a researcher has presented the finding at the Society for General Microbiology's Autumn Conference at the University of York in the UK. The research team are consists of researchers from the University of Nottingham and the University of Maastricht.
