Hepatitis B more easily transmitted than HIV

Mad Cow Disease Could Spread Through The Air, Study Reveals

Research by Swiss scientists has revealed that the mad cow disease or Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy (BSE) caused by prions could be transmitted through the air when inhaled.

Deadly disease that attacks brain cells and even make the brain becomes like a sponge or porridge, known to be transmitted through surgical instruments contaminated by prions, or through blood transfusions and food using beef infected by BSE.

Research led by Professor Adriano Aguzzi conducted at three universities namely University of Zurich, the University Hospital of Zurich and the University of Tubingen has documented the discovery of BSE transmission through the air could contain prions and inhaled by humans or animals.


However, the researchers said that the tests conducted on mice can be used as vigilance for us to further minimize the transmission of mad cow disease through the air. Regulations concerning prevention may be applied to places like farms and slaughtering cattle, feed mills and places that can be infected by prions.
