E coli grabbed 35 lives suspected from contaminated germinated seeds

Sunday, June 12, German Institute for Public Health has announced the two new victims of virulent strain of the bacterium Enterohaemorrhagic Escherichia coli(EHEC), which has been raging for several weeks in Germany. All the victims are 34 dead in Germany and one death in Sweden.

The German authorities has identified the source of contamination in germinated seeds from an organic farm in northern Germany, even It has high hygiene standards. The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) advises consumption of germinated seeds until further notice . The warning on cucumbers, tomatoes and salad for a two weeks will cost hundreds of millions of euros to European producers.


Günther Dettweiler, spokesman for RKI said that twenty-two people died of hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS), which is the most serious complication of kidney disease, and twelve other reasons related to the infection.


Meanwhile, the World Health Organization reported the same results and also identifies a total of 3,255 cases confirmed or suspected patients in sixteen countries (Germany, Denmark, Sweden, Austria, Canada, France, Czech Republic, Greece, Netherlands, Luxembourg, Norway, Poland, Spain , Switzerland, UK and USA). With five exceptions, all cases have a link with Germany. WHO also noted nearly 773 people suffering from HUS in Germany and 812 in total.

Scientists said cellphones is likely to be cancer-causing agent
