Common blood pressure drug linked to breast cancer recurrence

Recently study by researchers at the Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center at UCLA, California shows that ACE inhibitors and beta blockers for high blood pressure drugs may work differently in the breast cancer microenvironment. The study published online in the journal Breast Cancer Research and Treatment, explained that ACE inhibitors which commonly used to control high blood pressure and heart failure in women and beta blockers have opposite effects for women with a personal history of breast cancer.

Researchers have used mice with breast cancer that will be used to determine the effects of chronic stress on breast cancer recurrence. The stress releases hormones will lower the immune system and cause increased the risk of tumor recurrence. The mice with breast cancer and chronically stressed had a thirty fold increased risk for breast cancer recurrence. The mice subsequently given the meta-blockers and the effects of stress on breast cancer recurrence were ameliorated. Researchers will then use the results of the study to examine the impact of the same drug in women with breast cancer.

Dr. Patricia Ganz, director of cancer prevention and control research at UCLA's Jonsson Cancer Center and first author of the study, will conduct comprehensive research on larger groups of women with breast cancer and reassure the explanation of pathways and biologic which might discovered to explain why ACE inhibitors increase the risk for breast cancer recurrence.

Inflammation seems to be an important role in breast cancer and different classes of drugs may affect different pathways of inflammation. The breast cancer patients or those at high risk for breast cancer should declare this to their doctor for other options for drugs.

Chocolate Effective Safe for High Blood Pressure

Chocolate in addition to being our most favorite foods and lowering the stress it also can be used as a natural medicine that effective and safe to normalize our blood pressure. Research shows that the natural flavanols contained in cacao and dark chocolate is very effective to help lower high blood pressure.

Flavanols in chocolate work lowering high blood pressure by inhibiting angiotensin works that will affect the balance of fluids in the body. Flavanols are also very good to regulate blood pressure because it can increase the formation of the endothelial nitric oxide which shows the effect of relaxing the walls of blood vessels and lowers blood pressure.

The results showed flavanol function has been published in the Journal of Cardiovascular Pharmacology. But also keep in mind that the research is to use unsweetened cocoa like those found in many special dark chocolate. The function will not be the same as chocolate found in sweetened milk chocolate and semi-sweet varieties.

This is a safe natural way than the use of ACE inhibitors to slow the action of angiotensin-forming enzyme causes constriction of blood vessels which ultimately increases blood pressure.

Fructose in Sweetened Can Cause High Blood Pressure

Fructose is usually contained in any sweet food and beverages including fruits although only a few. The diet with lots of sweetener-containing fructose can trigger high blood pressure or hypertension as one of the top causes of death in America.

The Institute of Medicine noted that one in three Americans has hypertension and most of them do not understand it because there are no regular checks of their blood pressure. A surprising discovery by researchers at University of Colorado Denver Health Sciences Center have shown that the causes of high blood pressure during the last hundred years is directly related to increased consumption of fructose.
